Winter Working Test
We’re excited to announce that our 2025 Winter Working Test will take place on Sunday, 28th December 2025 at our training ground.
It’s always a fantastic day out for members and non-member. You might be surprised at just how well your dog performs!
Treat it like a regular training session, enjoy the experience, and you might even walk away with an award.
And if things don’t quite go to plan? No problem! It’s still a great day out, so don’t overthink it — just enter and enjoy the day.
Summary
There will be three classes for each breed (HPR, Retriever & Spaniel)
- Puppy: dogs up to 12 months on the day
- Novice: dogs aged over 12 month who have not previously won a novice working test
- Open: dogs aged over 12 months that are well trained or have won a novice working test

Location: Our Training Ground, Malthouse Lane along the Basingstoke Road (A33), ///nipped.lace.comically.
Start Time: Please arrive from 9am with the test starting at 9:30am, this allows enough time sign you in.
What’s involved
Each test consists of three key elements:
- Hunting
- Two land retrieves
Awards and Prizes
- 1st Place: Trophy, medal, rosette, and certificate
- 2nd to 6th Place: Medal, rosette, and certificate
- All placed competitors also receive a selection of goodies supplied by our sponsors, BASC and MuntjacTrading
Multiple Entries
You are welcome to enter more than one test on the day — for example:
- Puppy and Novice, or Novice and Open
You can also run two dogs in the same class, provided you have someone to assist you.
How to sign up
You can sign up in advance via our app, in person or via email or on the day. Payment can be made by cash or card. Please complete the generic booking form preferably before the day – as this helps with the admin.

Important Information for Participants
All participants attend at their own risk. Neither the WBGC nor the Wellington Estate accepts any responsibility for any accident, injury, loss, or damage to persons, dogs, vehicles, or equipment, however caused, on the day of the event.
By entering, participants agree to take full responsibility for themselves, their dogs, and their property.
What you need to bring:
Two dummies marked with your name or initials and some lunch.
Running Multiple Dogs:
If you are running two dogs, please bring someone with you to hold one while the other is competing.
Dogs on Leads:
All dogs must be kept on a lead at all times unless actively competing in a test. The judge will let you know when it is appropriate to remove the lead.
Clean Up After Your Dog:
Please pick up after your dog and dispose of any waste or rubbish in the black bin bags provided.
Children and Safety:
We want everyone to enjoy the day. If you bring children, they must be supervised at all times. Please ensure they stay away from water and any obstacles, as this is an active working training ground with potential hazards.
Ground Conditions:
Please be aware that this is a working training ground and may contain potholes, trip hazards, and water hazards. Appropriate footwear is recommended.
