From general obedience and basic training through to specific gundog related training WBGC provides support and guidance to owners wanting to improve their dog’s skills whilst outdoors.
Individual members can work towards Tiered Tests or simply come along for the fun.
Basics - This class is for dogs and owners with little or no experience in obedience or gundog training. The basics covered are attention, settle, sit, stay, recall, walking to heel, retrieve, whistle work and hunting.
Beginners - Dogs must be able to respond to its name, respond to the voice/whistle recall command, be able to sit to the stop whistle whilst on lead within 6 feet of handler, pick up a thrown article, walk to heel on lead for a distance of 10 metres and stay for a period of 30 seconds with the handler a couple of paces away.
Intermediate - Dogs must be able to walk to heel on lead for a distance of 15 metres, stay for a period of between 30 sec and 2 mins (dependant on breed), dog must show a willingness to move off and hunt, the handler must be able to direct the dog to a retrieve, be comfortable around gunshot and carry out a marked retrieve at a maximum of 20 metres.
Advanced - Dogs must be able to sit stay at 30 metres for between 1 and 3 mins (dependant on breed), off lead heel for a distance of 30 metres, hunt in short cover, directional retrieve, steadiness to thrown dummy off lead, back and marked retrieve in cover, be able to drop the dog in a sit and walk away.
Each monthly training session end with “have a go” activities where owners have time to use other club facilities, teaching their dogs to retrieve from water, jump over obstacles, etc.
