I have just printed off my membership form do you reckon it will be ok to show up on Sunday with the forms? Sorry to pester just trying to get a feel of how things are run over there.
Thanks steve hopefully will be down on Sunday.
Phew, I thought I'd missed something there! I will have a look in the diary and try and get over, it would definitely be good to get as much exposure as possible to what happens in the field. I have spoken to Allan and Sue about working Bimba and they both agreed I need a bit of practice first (along with brushing up the whistle sit on sent and as you said the end of the retrive). I'll message you tomorrow to let you know if I can make Sunday.
Thanks for the help, Helena.
Hi Steve (my name's Helena). I wasn't going to come to the pointing day, I may sound a bit stupid, but I didn't know that spaniels 'pointed'??
Hi Steve
Thanks for Sunday I found the cold game training very interesting. I am a real novice and every session I attend is invaluble! Bimba is very clever, but runs rings round me so I know I have a lot left to learn. Sunday was a bit longer than I had anticipated so we had to leave a bit early, I hope the rest of the session went well. It was really good watching your dog, she was amazing (something to aspire to)! See you soon. Helena.
Hi Steve,
Would it be ok to come next session to say hi & get Lucy started?
Hi Steve
thanks for the welcome! Any comments on either the Slovakian rough haired pointer or the weirhaired viszla?
Hi Steve, thank you for the welcome.
The picture of the puppy shows him when he was 8 weeks old, he is now approaching 17 weeks and has grown a lot, so we now have a small dog in place of the puppy. He is from the Sedgehurst kennel so he has some good genetics in his lines, he seems really keen to learn and is full of energy. Looking forward to getting him out for some puppy training shortly.
Thank you Steve, the boys are now 9 months so we were thinking of bringing one of them down for basic training this year - the next date seems to be February? Do we need to book or can we just come down?
I haven't been able to attend since last year, keep meaning to but there is always something else happening. In the Summer we often go out to do gamefair scurries I may have a chance to come over in the winter.
Thanks for the comment on my profile snap, We now have four cockers and I have re done an up to date one.
BTW do you know Lee Prestbury he does tatoos and some birdwork on tips and at Heathrow
Thks, valuable advice. I made the mistake of getting so far with my dog and then working him in the field on shoot days, he has such a good nose he began to trust his senses and ignore what I wanted him to do and go to a point, but I've since had some one to one lessons with Alan and have worked hard with my lab and now I always take command, so my dog is never aloud to make his own judgement until he began to trust and listen to me. He now knows my directions do lead to rewards of found game and the control switch button is now in my hands and not his.
This trust thing once established is fantastic, for my dog it was like a light switch going on in his head, I just let him use his senses too much before I had established respect. Much better now. Thks Angie |
