Helen, remember I said I'd post about the herbal supplements to give a phantoming bitch?

Well, they are all available from Dorwest Herbs (great site if you have not used them before, I buy supplements from them and can highly recommend them!).

This is what I found on the other forum I frequent:

To help with avoiding Phantom Pregnancies you can give your bitch Raspberry Leaf tablets. You need to start giving her these from the very first sign of the start of her season and they recommend that you continue for 12 weeks.

As a help when it has already happened they recommend Scullcap and Vallerian Tablets which are supposed to stop a phantom in its tracks.

Hope this helps!!

Hi Ness

Thank you.  I will give these a go.

Bad news is...Maisy is showing signs of coming into season and so she won't be able to do her Grade II.  Really disappointed.

But clearly a glutton for punishment as going to bring new lump Barney who is rather boisterous and not under control to try and get him through Test 1.

Thanks again for the details

Hi Helen

All I can is snap Koda is in season at the moment so have had to miss the Grade II too.  We are now on day 16 and according to the (very expensive!) premate test she had yesterday, she still hasn't ovulated :(.   Why, oh why is this always the way when you want a litter of puppies!!!

 Good luck with Barney!

Ness

I will also try the raspberry leaf if it is ok to start them even though they are in full blown season??

Hi all, as a vet nurse and owner, i personaly wouldnt be giving my bitches anything during oestrus to interfere with the body's own hormones.  I would only be giving medications, herbal or otherwise, if a pseudopregnancy becoame a problem.  Pseudopregnancy is considered normal in the bitch because of the changes in plasma hormones which are the same in pregnant and non pregnant bitches.  It is only in some cases medications are required but mostly not necessary as the signs will gradually reduce.  Hope this helps

Oh Helen!! Gutted for you. I know we said at training last week that she was being very flirty, so I guess at least you know we weren't imagining things :)

Good luck with Grade 1 for Barney!

We have had to pull out of Grade 2 as well, but for different reasons :(

Debbie - Raspberry Leaf is aimed for preventing a phantom pregnancy, wheras you are (fingers crossed) hoping that Koda will have a real pregnancy, so I wouldn't be giving them to her, but Dorwest have a number you can call to speak to them about any of their products so give them a call.

I'll keep everything crossed for you that the next premate says "go go go!!!" :) And of course best wishes for the mating, you will have to keep us updated!!
