WBGC was founded and launched by Ali Nicholson-Haynes in March 2008 as Ali experienced difficulty getting support and advice when starting her hobby of gundog training.  With support from pet behaviourist Rebecca Cox (Four Paw Solutions) and Jacquie Ward, breeder and trialler of Working Cocker Spaniels (Breezybrook Gundogs), the launch proved a great success. 

Due its success the club has welcomed on board as trainers Caroline Maskell and Richard Clarke specialising in Spaniel and Retriever breeds.


From day one interest in the club was phenomenal and it regularly attracts 30 or more attendees every month, ranging from hard and fast gundog enthusiasts to pet dog owners


Initially advertising for Spaniel and Retriever breeds, the club has since expanded to provide training for the HPR breeds, supported by Allan & Sue Hender, breeders and triallers of German Wirehaired Pointers.

Late in 2008 Tima Lund joined as a regular trainer and fills in when needed as part of the West Berkshire Team.
